What's Goin' On In Your Town
God had just finished
yet another long day,
Scoldin' His children for forgettin' to pray,
Then
the boy Johnny said the F word in school,
While sweet little Suzy called her
Mother a fool.
At the same time a man
had just lied to his boss,
By sayin' money he received had somehow got
lost,
An old lady spoke kindly to her neighbor that day,
But behind their
back, not a good word to say.
The chief of police
swore to uphold the law,
Yet denied the fact drugs were bein' sold by his
Maw',
When an undercover agent finally made the arrest,
Chief said,"This
lady is only an acquaintance at best"!
Gramps looked so
innocent in his old rockin' chair,
Wouldna' guessed a young woman had been
there,
Shame on Maggie for excitin' old Gramps,
And Grandma' too for
callin' Maggie a tramp!
The reverend at Church
who gave Sunday Mass
Yet stole from the funds when the basket was
passed,
A brother and sister who had fought all day long,
Cursin' and
swearin' not knowin' right from wrong.
And in the very same
city in a courtroom that day,
Judges had ruled kids could no longer
pray,
The schools are now empty and no God will you see,
It was a very sad
time for you, and for me.
Think of the homes
where the word love is neglected,
How we sit back wonderin' why we're not
connected,
Maybe someday we can show God our best,
By not continuously
puttin' His patience to test.
At the end of the day
just when God had enough,
He peered in an alleyway where things had got
rough,
Before His eyes he then witnessed a crime,
When a helpless old man
lay bleeding and dying.
He then saw His own
children walk past this old man,
Without one single soul who had offered
their hand,
This angered God and His teardrops did fall,
Yet promised
forgiveness if His name they did call.
