How Long This Time ?

We Don't Need Another Hero
Our country's full of pedestals,
Where we place our hero's high,
Only to watch them as they fall,
Then fade away and die.
We fall just short of bowing,
When we see them on the street,
Believing they are far above,
The normal folks we meet.
An actor or an actress,
A model or musician,
We seem intent on admiring them,
Whatever they say we'll listen.
For some, Hollywood's like heaven,
Where the stars all wine and dine,
But fine outstanding citizens,
You'd be very hard pressed to find.
Their faces clog our t.v. sets,
Wasting good program time,
They appear on all the talk shows,
Like god's appear in shrine's.
What is it that's so special,
That causes folks to applaud,
It's certainly not their moral life,
Of that they seemed to be robbed.
It is us who placed them up so high,
For all our children to see,
But do we really want role models,
Who behave with such stupidity?
Which one today is sniffing cocaine,
And who will be shooting up speed,
So we can congratulate and shake their hand,
When they seek the detox they need.
If we need a role model or hero,
Then you and I had best tend to that,
At least we're not living in a fantasy world,
Where money and glamour is where it's at!
