We Almost Made It
What little hope I held in my heart,
For a life with someone to love,
One who could share, one who could dare,
When suddenly you appeared like a dove.
With the face of an angel and heavenly smile,
A heart that glistened like snow,
Purity dwelled from within your beauty,
Seeds of faith and goodness you sowed.
The true lady you were had left me in awe,
Overwhelming with qualities you shared,
Never had I known such a person as you,
As I learned how much you could bear.
You set an example how life should be,
You had faith in the good Lord above,
Gentle and kind in all that you did,
Yet stood guard for all whom you loved.
A friend for many who had trust in you,
With loyalty you gave of yourself,
Sacrificing at times when it hurt you,
Your own feelings were put on a shelf.
For me you were my very best friend,
I felt honoured to be in your midst,
The best part of all is I loved you,
You were number one at the top of my list.
Like ships in rough waters surrounded by fog,
We passed one another through the night,
And all that was left when the storm clouds cleared,
Were but memories of me holding you tight.
