The Night Before
He couldn't remember what he had done,
Or said
from the night before,
Only the thoughts of whiskey bent,
And the sound of
a slamming door.
A note on the table helped him recollect,
Events
that he couldn't recall,
Words that were written in tears by his wife,
He
then seen the writing on the wall.
It started by saying I've done all I can,
But
your drinking has affected my life,
You will not seek the help I've asked you
to,
I can no longer remain as your wife.
You've chosen to hang out with friends at the
bar,
While your children and I sit alone,
We're tired of you staggering in
at all hours,
Not knowing if you'll even make it home.
You're no longer the man who devoted his
time,
Making sure your family came first,
You now place the booze and
friends above us,
In an effort to satisfy your thirst.
I've watched in sadness, and the children
too,
How the bottle has taken command,
Our once very sociable
neighbors,
The sight of you can no longer stand.
You once earned respect from your family,
And a
position that was leading to success,
Now because of the life you have
chosen,
You have lost everything that was best.
When you stumbled in at three this morning,
And
screamed for me to get out of bed,
The children all woke up crying,
Hearts
pounding with a sense of dread.
They stood by my side and witnessed,
Your hand
strike it's blow on my face,
Never again will you ever see us,
We're
disappearing without any trace!
