Have you noticed that far too many times a Victims reputation comes to be
the focal point of the press, and not so much that of the person who has been
accused of the crime? One such case that is pending involves a famous basketball
player, who has been accused of committing rape.
He has sat in front of television
camera's and news reporters to look straight into the eyes of the world, and claims
it was consensual.
I'm not sure if you have formed an opinion yet, but I don't mind
at all saying what mine is....he's a liar.
So what have the press set out to do?
They have been providing information on this
young ladies personal life, to make her look that she asked for all she got, and that
her reputation has been anything but glowing.
Tell me...What the hell does that have
to do with the fact that she claims to have been raped??
Does it mean if you are not an outstanding role model, or a famous basketball player,
that you being raped is no longer a crime??
No it doesn't.
If a crime is committed against
another member of society, it does not matter at all if your reputation does not measure
up to that of someone famous.
Your life is just as important as theirs, and no one,
whether they be rich, famous, or hold a high political office is not above the law.
It was not all that long ago when a president looked straight into the eyes of the world,
and lied through his teeth.
The above mentioned case still pending, fits right along side.
However...that is my opinion only.
The Media
The Media plays such an important role,
At keeping us all well informed,
They'll let us know what transpires each day,
As each news item becomes born.
Yes it is great to be kept abreast,
And have knowledge of what's taking place,
Nothing is more interesting than hearing each day,
What's going on with the human race.
But wait! Let's all take a closer look,
Can the Media cause unjust woe?
You had better believe that they certainly can,
By writing stories we don't need to know.
Why is it the press will scrutinize the Victim,
Rather than focus its intent on the crime,
Like a snake they'll crawl underneath jagged rocks,
Seeing what they can uncover for slime!
If you happen to be involved in professional sports,
And you've been accused of committing a rape,
You probably need not be overly concerned,
The Media may help aid in your escape!
The personal history of a woman they'll uncover,
To make her look bad in front of the courts,
If it's proven that she's been sexually active,
She'll be looked upon as a whore of sorts!
But why should that even matter,
When the fact is that she has been raped,
She's not the one whose going on trial,
It's her perpetrator who faces that fate!
It's so sad that the family of Carlie Brucia,
An eleven year old abducted and found dead,
How the Media couldn't wait to tell all the world,
Personal history of the victims to be read.
The Judicial System holds hands with the Media,
Between the two of them they ruin many life's,
If the Media only wrote what we all need to know,
And the Judicial System stopped telling us lies!
