Tell Me About The Good Ol' Days

Grandpa'...tell us all about the good ol' days,
For it's become a difficult time to perceive,
How loved prevailed and promises were kept,
When families said grace for the meal they received.

Remind us again how a neighbour would help,
A stranger or a family in need,
When a profit was not so much in demand,
Pay check deductions not taken in greed.

Tell me about the years you and grandma' have spent,
How your love for one another never wavered,
And one of my most favourite stories of all,
Through hardships, the success you still savoured.

When the opinions of others were met with open minds,
And were accepted although different from your own,
When fathers and mothers remained with their family,
And would never dream of leaving their loved ones alone.

A time when families would attend Sunday church,
To offer thanks for that which you had,
Material things held not much importance,
When right or wrong you took the good with the bad.

Grandpa'... please tell me about the good ol' days,
When women and children were safe out at night,
And the days that lovers remained side by side,
Not calling it quits at the first sign of a fight.

And grandpa'...just so I will never forget,
Please tell me just one more time,
How you have faith in humanity and never lose hope,
And how happiness will one day be mine.
