Save A Life Today

My eyes were somewhat blurry,
As I squinted out toward the sea,
A small ship was being battered,
Appeared to be sinking hopelessly.

I could see the lightning flashing,
As the waves smashed against its bow,
High winds tossed this beaten vessel,
And I had to save her life somehow.

I worried about the fate of the crew,
If I failed to reach them in time,
And it seemed that I was the only hope,
The responsibility now was mine.

Realizing how quickly it was sinking,
I knew that I had to work fast,
But could I swim through this raging tempest,
And would my strength and determination last?

Then suddenly I felt a hand on my shoulder,
And heard a voice whisper soft in my ear,
He said; "Son you don't have to go all alone",
"Take my hand, for my Spirit is here".

My eyes tried to focus on who spoke these words,
But there was no one that came into site,
Just then my knees became weakened,
As I was overcome by a soft glowing light.

And there standing before me was an Angel Of God,
With words that were inscribed in his heart,
They said Love, Peace, Faith, and Hope,
And a chance for a brand new start.

I explained to this Angel of the ship I had seen,
With the danger and despair it was in,
And I asked if he would please help me save it,
As the ships future was looking so grim.

He smiled and said; "Look back to the sea",
And as I did, no ship could be seen,
When I cried and asked what happened to the crew,
He replied; "It's yourself you were freeing"!

It was then that I realized I was saving myself,
And that the ship I had seen was just me,
Now I have learned that I needn't swim alone,
If I spend a little time on my knees.
