Momma' Got Hit By A Train

My Momma' raised us as best she could,
On a run down country farm,
And was always watchin' out for us,
To protect us from big city harm.

My Daddy had died while we was young,
So Momma' had to learn real fast,
How best to raise her family of five,
And to stop us from all smokin' grass!

We learned how to drink at a very young age,
And we sure had our fair share of fights,
Why, even our Momma' got hooked on booze,
When we all went to town Saturday nights.

Me and my brothers had a temper and such,
And my Mom says we got it from Paw,
But I ain't never quite seen the likes,
Of my Momma' with that ole chain saw!

One day a man from the bank called Maw,
And threatened to foreclose on our farm,
I'll be danged if the next thing I seen Momma' do,
Was plumb threaten that banker with harm.

Well now, he didn't take too kindly to that,
And decided to drive out to our home,
That was his biggest and last grave mistake,
And he shoulda' left our poor Momma' alone.

No sooner had he drove to the front of the porch,
When Momma' took the shotgun offa' the wall,
She done shot that old banker straight through the heart,
And down to the ground he did fall!

Us kids started sceamin' to put the gun down,
'Course by that time the damage was done,
Weren't long after that and the sheriff arrived,
And drove away carryin' our poor ole Mom.

She spent twenty years in prison for the bankers death,
And done called me when her time had been served,
I was to pick her up at the ole train station,
But on that night I was drunk and eyes blurred.

I knew she wouldn'a took kindly to me sayin' no,
So I jumped in my old pickup truck,
I drove hell bent for leather just as fast as I could,
Not ever thinkin' I was in for bad luck.

There was my Momma' standin' a waitin' for me,
And I hollered, "Hey Momma'....over here"!,
She stepped off the platform and ran toward my truck,
But that damn ole train didn't see her.

I heard a loud scream and there lay my Maw,
All bloodied, crippled, and lame,
You can bet you azz I'll never forget,
The night my Momma' got hit by that train!
