Don't Blow Out The Candle
There are two doors in life marked Future and
Past,
And another labeled Live For Today,
The decision we make on which
road to take,
Will determine our strength along the way.
Far too many of us choose the door marked
'Past',
Wading amongst old memories and pain,
Only to find we can't find
our way out,
As our minds become too tired and lame.
Yet, if we walk toward the door marked
Future,
And build dreams that come crashing to the ground,
We are left
holding in our hearts disappointments,
Because our long range plans, were not
found.
So who is it that's responsible for guiding our
life's,
Our husbands, our wife's, or our children?
Should we expect our
parents, or friends to decide?
Not a chance, not even one in a
zillion!
Speaking only for myself, the spirit can
suffer,
The past is where I spend too much time,
Realizing as well that I
walk not alone,
For I also share the tears that you're crying.
And we dare not set goals too far in
advance,
Lest we weaken and can't see them through,
Leaving us feeling
that we've failed once again,
When our dreams become broken in
two.
So what can we do to escape our dark past,
And
prevent it from swinging back open?
To my way of thinking there is only one
way,
Pray to God with our words carefully spoken.
It is we ourselves, who can blow out our
candle,
And then watch as it flickers and dies,
Leaving us alone in our
own world of darkness,
Blinded by the tears that we cry.
When we try living in the future without
knowledge,
The effects I can assure you are the same,
And only when we
choose to live just for today,
Will we ever stay on top of our
game.
