A Strange Source Of Truth
Today I came upon a man, Who held a Bible in his
hand, His weakened voice I barely heard, So I stopped awhile to hear his
words.
In a quiet but distinguished voice, He asked me
if I'd made a choice, Between a road of right and wrong, Or finding in
life where I belong.
I took a breath before I spoke, And told him I
was like most folk, Struggling to do the best I can, In a world I did not
understand.
He raised his eyes and looked at me, As if to
say 'how could that be', "Have you taken time to read His plan"? "If you
have, nothings left to understand".
"God laid it out simple and clear", "Of how the
world would exist in fear", "And what you fail to understand", "There are
no answers for that of man".
I told him life was a tug of war, Within a world
I now deplore, How I try to turn my head away, From the wars and hate I
see each day.
He replied to embrace that which is good, Hold
dear to the treasures I understood, Love and compassion toward one
another, Even days when you feel you will smother.
As I raised my head to answer this man, He was
being led away with Bible in hand, "Come" she said, "I will take you
home", "Four times this week you've wandered alone".
"Pay no attention, he means no one harm", "We hadn't
missed him until the alarm". I watched him escorted to a hospital van, As
I repeated the words, " I now understand".
